How you care for your jewellery depends on what it's made of. Find the tag included in your order that lists the metal, thread and beads used to create your order.
Sterling silver
Stronger than pure silver, sterling silver needs very little care. Keep it away from chemicals (like lotions and perfumes) to prevent tarnishing and if it does tarnish, give it a polish with a polishing cloth.
14k gold fill
With all the benefits of solid gold but more affordable (and often stronger), 14k gold fill can last a lifetime if cared for properly. Keep your jewellery away from chemicals (like lotions and perfumes) and avoid abrasive materials that might wear away the bonded gold.
Silk
Silk is 100% natural and is incredibly strong but will eventually degrade. To help it last longer, keep your silk thread jewellery away from chemicals (like lotion and perfumes) and limit its exposure to water. When your silk has reached the end of its life, get in touch to discuss our restringing options.
Stainless Steel Coated
Coated stainless steel offers a waterproof, more durable alternative to silk thread. You can keep it on when you bathe, shower or swim.
Nylon
We only use nylon thread for our flower bead jewellery. Like coated stainless steel thread, it's completely waterproof and can be worn when you bathe, shower or swim.
Glass
Our tiny, strong glass beads are waterproof and the colour won't fade with the exception of the sterling silver coated and 24k gold plated beads. These need to be kept away from chemicals (like lotions and perfumes) and will need polishing every now and then to bring back their shine.
Gemstone
Our gemstone beads are a little more delicate than glass, with some stones stronger than others (e.g. opal is much softer than ruby). They aren't dyed and therefore the colour won't fade, but do take care around lotions and perfumes to preserve their integrity.
Pearl
Freshwater pearls are much softer than all our other beads and need to be treated as such. Keep away from chemicals (especially abrasive materials) and limit exposure to water. Our mother of pearl beads are much stronger, but you should still follow the same care guidance.
